August 26, the OAS received 25 Law students from Georgetown University.
Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs, escorted
them on a tour through the Historical OAS Main Building. Irene Klinger,
Director, Department of International Affairs welcomed the group and gave an
OAS overview. Elizabeth Abi-Mershed, Assistant Executive Secretary,
Inter-American Commission of Human Rights, gave a specialized briefing on
Human Rights. The group concluded the session with a visit to the Art Museum
of the Americas.
On
August 19, the OAS received 15 interns from the German Embassy. Betty
Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs, escorted them on a
tour through the Historical OAS Main Building. Jorge Sanin, Head, Relations
with Permanent Observer Countries & Civil Society, Department of
International Affairs, welcomed the group and gave an overview of the OAS.
The group concluded the session with a visit to the Art Museum of the

August 13, the OAS received a visit form 56 students from the 50th
class of the Inter-American Defense College for a full-day program. Betty

Executive Secretary, Secretariat for Integral Development welcomed the group
and provided an overview of the OAS. Raul Lago, Principal Advisor,
Department of Political Affairs gave a specialized briefing on Democracy.
Abraham Stain, Deputy Secretary, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security
gave a specialized briefing on Security. Mario Lopez Garelli, Principal
Specialist, Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission on Human
Rights, gave a specialized briefing on Human Rights; and the session
concluded with some remarks by Amb. Luis Alfonso Hoyos Aristizabal,
Permanent Representative, Mission of Colombia to the OAS.

August 3, the OAS received a visit from SOUTHCOM with 21 Military from
Instituto Nacional de Guerra del Ecuador (INAGUE). Jorge Sanin, Head,
Relations with Permanent Observer Countries & Civil Society, Department of
International Affairs, welcomed the group and gave an overview of the OAS.
Agustin Fornell, Counselor Minister of the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to
the OAS gave a description of the functions and objectives of the Ecuadorian
mission to the OAS. Raul Lago, Principal Advisor, Department of Political
Affairs gave a specialized briefing on Democracy. Gala Redington,
Specialist, Secretariat of Multidimensional Security, gave a specialized
briefing on Security and Mario Lopez Garelli, Principal Specialist,
Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, gave
a specialized briefing on Human Rights. The visit concluded with a guided
through the Historical OAS Main Building provided by Betty Arevalo,
Specialist, Department of International Affairs.

of the Model OAS concluding the session.

sobre la Administración de Justicia (FORES). Aline Hommes, Specialist,

specialized briefing on women issues concluding the session.

July 23, the OAS received 85 students from El Parlamento Juvenil de la
República Dominicana. Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of International
Affairs, Secretariat for External Relations escorted the group on a tour

and gave an overview of the Organization. Nelly Robinson, MOAS Program

Relations gave an overview of the Model OAS and coordinated a MOAS practice
session with the students. Mayerlyn Cordero, Minister Counselor, Alternate
Representative of the Mission of the Dominican Republic to the OAS welcomed
the students and congratulated them on their initiatives and participation
as young leaders in the MODEA del Parlamento Juvenil de la República
Dominicana.

July 22, the OAS Received 45 students from Universidad Comillas de
España participating with the Georgetown University: Inside Washington, Law,
Development, and Diplomacy program. Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of
International Affairs, Secretariat for External Relations escorted them on a

welcomed them and gave an overview of the organization. Santiago Canton,
Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights,
concluded the session with a detailed briefing on the work and
accomplishments of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

the Organization. Ambassador Dario Paya, Permanent Representative of the
Mission of Chile to the OAS gave a description of the functions and
objectives of the Permanent Mission of Chile. Raúl Lago, Principal Advisor,
Department of Political Affairs gave an informative briefing on Democracy.

June 17, 90 OAS Interns enjoyed a tour of the Historical OAS Main

for External Relations gave an overview of the OAS. Adriana Ospina, Docent,
Art Museum of the Americas, welcomed the interns and led them on a tour of
the current exposition at the Art Museum of the Americas.
On
June 16, 4 university students from Haiti enrolled in the Center
for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) program with 3 of their
respective Program Officers from U.S. universities visited the OAS. The
group received a tour of the Historic OAS Main Building with Aline Hommes,
Specialist, Department of International Affairs, Secretariat for External
Relations. Jean Rico Dormeus, Advisor to the Assistant Secretary General
spoke on the role and work of the OAS in Haiti. Counselor Paul Prompt Youri
Emmanuel, Alternate Representative of the Mission of Haiti to the OAS
commended the students on their decision to participate in the CIED program
and spoke on the importance of their role as young leaders in helping the
Haitian community rebuild after the devastated earthquake of January 2010.

May 24, the OAS receives 20 graduate students from Texas A&M

Victor Rico, Secretary, Secretariat for Political Affairs, gave a briefing on Democracy, and Christian Taboada, Specialist, Department of Public Security, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security gave an informative briefing on security threats and issues in the Americas. The Session was concluded with comments by Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the OAS, Ambassador Jorge Skinner Klee and Ambassador Lionel Valentín Maza, Permanent Alternate Representative, of the Mission of Guatemala to the OAS.

Meeting on Electoral Management Bodies at OAS headquarters. Aline Hommes,

May 6, the OAS received 30 visitors with OASIS Volunteer and
Tour Escort – Washington DC. Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of

organization, and finalized the program with a visit to the Art Museum of
the Americas.
