On
August 25, the OAS received 20 students from the Law Program of
Georgetown University. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of
International Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS
Building. Sherry Stephenson, Head of Institutional Relations, Department of
International Affairs, gave them an overview of the Organization. To
conclude with the session, the group visited the Art Museum of the Americas
to appreciate the Art of the Americas.
On
August 24, the OAS received 30 Mexican students from Universidad
Panamericana. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International
Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building. Jorge
Sanin, Head, Relations with Permanent Observers and Civil Society,
Department of International Affairs give them an overview of the
Organization. Alonso Martinez, a Representative from the Permanent Mission
of Mexico, explained the Role of Mexico in the OAS. To conclude with the
session, Luis Consuegra, Specialist, Department of International Affairs,
gave an overview of the Model of the General Assembly (MOEA).
On
August 17, the OAS received 30 Arquitecture students from University of
Notre Dame. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs,
escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building.
On
August 4, the House of the Americas received 5 Interns from the
Pan-American Health Organization PAHO. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department
of International Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS
Building; followed by an overview of the Organization given by Jorge Sanin,
Head of Relations with Permanent Observers and Civil Society, Department of
International Affairs.
On
August 3, the OAS received 65 representatives from the Organización para
el Desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe, Onward Perú International.
Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs, escorted
them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building; followed by an overview
of the Organization given by Irene Klinger, Director, Department of
International Affairs. After that, the group received a specialized briefing
on Sustainable Development by Mark Lambrides, Maximiliano Campos, Pablo
Gonzalez and Rosa Trejo, Specialists from the Department of Sustainable
Development.
On
July 21, the House of the Americas received 39 high school students from
Partners of the Americas. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of
International Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS
Building. Followed by an overview of the Organization given by Sherry
Stephenson, Head Institutional Relations Department of International
Affairs.
On
July 20, the House of the Americas received a group of 58 Military
Officers and Civilians of the Higher Education Graduate Course (EGAE) from
the Dominican Republic. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of
International Affairs, escorted them through the Historical Building. Amb.
Alfonso Quiñonez, Secretariat of External Relations gave them an Overview of
the Organization. Ms. Gala Redington in representation of the Secretariat
for the Multidimensional Security gave a presentation of security issues.
The visit concluded with the participation of Mayerlyn Cordero Diaz,
Minister Counselor, and Alternate Representative of the Permanent Mission of
Dominican Republic to the OAS, who spoke on the role and functions of the
Mission.
On
July 13, the House of the Americas was pleased to receive 35 students
from the Rangel Program which is a collaborative effort between Howard
University and the U.S. State Department. Betty Arevalo, Specialist,
Department of International Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the
Historical OAS Building. Sherry Stephenson, Head Institutional Relations
Department of International Affairs approached the group with an overview of
the Organization. To conclude with the visit, the students visited the Art
Museum of the Americas where they were able to appreciate the magical Art of
the Americas.
On
July 13, the OAS was pleased to welcome a diverse group of children from
CentroNía. The group enjoyed a tour around the OAS Main Building led by
Betty Arevalo, Specialist of the Department of International Affairs.
On
July 13, the House of the Americas received 58 Salvadorian participants
from CAEE, Colegio de Altos Estudios Estratégios. The visit began with a
guided tour through the Historical OAS Main Building led by Betty Arevalo,
Specialist, Department of International Affairs. Amb. Alfonso Quiñonez,
Secretary of the Secretariat of External Relations gave them an Overview of
the Organization and Mr. Alvaro Briones, from the Department of Public
Security gave a presentation on security issues. The visit concluded with
the participation of Agustin Vasquez, Minister-Counselor of the Permanent
Mission of El Salvador to the OAS, who explained the role of the El Salvador
as a member of the OAS.

July 11, 44 High School Students from Close Up Washington visited the
OAS. Sonia Jurado, Intern, Department of International Affairs, escorted
them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building. Sherry Stephenson, Head
Institutional Relations Department of International Affairs, welcomed the
group and gave an overview of the Organization.
On
July 8, the OAS was pleased to receive 11 students from John Hopkins
University. Sonia Jurado, Intern, Department of International Affairs,
escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building. Sherry
Stephenson, Head Institutional Relations Department of International
Affairs, approached the group with an Overview of the Organization.
On
July 7, 60 Educators from The American Association of Teachers of
Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) visited the House of the Americas for a
guided tour. Sonia Jurado, Intern, Department of International Affairs, led
the group through the Historical OAS Main Building.
On
June 29, the OAS was pleased to receive a diverse group of 15 young
students. Sonia Jurado, Intern, Department of International Affairs,
escorted them on a tour through the Historical Building and the tunnel
connecting the OAS Building with its Administration Building.
On
June 27, the OAS received 18 students from the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Sonia Jurado, Intern, Department of International Affairs, guided them on a
tour through the Historical Building. Jorge Sanin, Head, Relations with
Permanent Observer Countries & Civil Society, Department of International
Affairs, welcomed the group and gave an overview of the OAS. To conclude
with the visit Nelly Robinson, MOAS Program Coordinator, gave them an
overview of the MOAS Program.
On
June 24, 20 Diplomats from the Foreign Institute Service visited the
House of the Americas. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of
International Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the Historical
Building. The Director of the Department of International Affairs, Irene
Klinger, welcomed the group and gave them an overview of the Organization.
On
June 23, the OAS received 14 Young Professionals from the Cámara de
Comercio Colombo Americana –AmCham Barranquilla. To begin with the visit
Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs escorted them
on a tour through the Historical Building. Jorge Sanin, Head, Relations with
Permanent Observer Countries & Civil Society, Department of International
Affairs, welcomed the group and gave an overview of the OAS.
On
June 22, 42 high school students from the Aaron Price Fellows visited
the OAS. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs,
escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building. Jaime Moreno
Valle, Consultant, Department of International Affairs, welcomed them and
gave an overview of the Organization. To conclude with the visit, Nelly
Robinson, MOAS Program Coordinator, gave a presentation of the Model OAS
General Assembly (MOAS).
On
June 21, the OAS received 22 Military Officers from the Academia
Nacional de Estudios Políticos y Estratégicos (ANEPE) from Chile. Their
visit began with a tour through the Historical Main Building guided by Betty
Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs. Irene Klinger,
Director of that Department gave them an Overview of the Organization.
Ambassador Dario Paya, Permanent Representative of the Mission of Chile to
the OAS addressed the group on the role of Chile to the OAS.
On
June 17, the OAS was pleased to received 29 Military Officers from the
Centro de Estudios de Alto Nivel from Colombia. Betty Arevalo, Specialist,
Department of International Affairs, guided them on a tour through the
Historical Main Building. Jose Luis Ramirez, in representation of the
Permanent Mission of Colombia to the OAS addressed the group on the role of
Colombia to the OAS. Irene Klinger the Director of the Department of
International Affairs gave them an Overview of the Organization. To conclude
with the session, Analía Banfi, Specialist of the Inter-American Commission
of Human Rights gave them a presentation on Human Rights.
On
June 16, 82 OAS Interns enjoyed a tour of the Historical OAS Main
Building headed by Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International
Affairs. Followed by an overview of the Organization given by Irene Klinger,
Director of the Department of International Affairs. Finally, Adriana
Ospina, Docent, Art Museum of the Americas, welcomed the interns and led
them on a tour of the current exposition at the Art Museum of the Americas.
On
June 14, the OAS received 100 students from American University,
Academy on Human Rights. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of
International Affairs, escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS
Building.
On
June 6, the OAS was pleased to receive Representatives from the
Dominican Republic. Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Washington,
D.C., Dr. Robert B. Saladin Selin, Senator José María Sosa Vazquez, and
Roberto Guzmán from the World Bank tour the OAS Main Building escorted by
Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs.
On
May 13, 70 Military from the Centro de Estudios Superiores Navales from
Mexico visited the OAS for a Tour through the Historical OAS Building
escorted by Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs.
On
May 13, The OAS received 10 diplomats from the Foreign Service Institute
(FSI). Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs,
escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building. The tour was
followed by The Role of the OAS in Hemispheric Affairs by Sherry Stephenson,
Head Institutional Relations, Department of International Affairs,
Secretariat for External Relations.
On May 10, 34 Military from Guatemala visited the OAS. Amb. Alfonso Quiñonez, Secretary from the Secretariat of External Relations gave an OAS overview. Ambassador Jorge Skinner-Klee, Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the OAS and Amb. Lionel Valentin Maza, Alternate Representative, addressed the group on the Role of Guatemala at the OAS. Representatives of the Embassy of Guatemala also presented their activities to the group. The visit concluded with a tour through the Historical OAS Building escorted by Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs.
On
May 9, the OAS received 24 Canadian students from The Université de
Sherbrooke. Betty Arevalo, Specialist, Department of International Affairs,
escorted them on a tour through the Historical OAS Building. Sherry
Stephenson, Head Institutional Relations Department of International
Affairs, welcomed them and gave an overview of the organization; and
Elizabeth Abi-Mershed, Assistant Executive Secretary of the Inter-American
Commission on Human Rights, gave a presentation on Human Rights. At the end
of the session, Mr. Pierre Giroux, Counselor, Alternate Representative of
the Permanent Mission of Canada addressed the group on the Role of Canada at
the OAS.
