On August 31, 25 participants from the Foreign Service Institute visited OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations gave an overview of the Organization.

On August 30, 22 students from Georgetown Law School visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations gave an overview of the Organization. Mario Lopez, Senior Specialist, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, spoke about human rights in the region.

On August 29, 22 members of the Dominican Armed Forces Higher Strategic Studies program visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received a Historic Tour of the Main Building from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. Ambassador Roberto Alvarez, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the OAS, spoke about the Dominican Republic’s mission to the OAS and priority issues of the institution. Pablo Zuñiga, Senior Specialist, Secretariat for Political Affairs, spoke about OAS promotion of democracy. Mario Lopez, Senior Specialist, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, spoke about human rights in the region and Abraham Stein, Deputy Executive Secretary, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, discussed multidimensional security in the Hemisphere.

On August 28, 58 students from “Estudiantes de la Política Juvenil de la República Dominicana” visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations and Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave an overview of the Organization. Magdalena Talamas, Chief, Public Relations at the Department of External Relations, gave an opening introduction and Nelly Robinson conducted a mock Model OAS with the students.  

 

On August 27, 25 military officers from “La Escuela Superior de Guerra Aérea del Perú” visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. Ambassador Antero Flores-Araoz, Permanent Representative of Peru to the OAS, spoke to the group about Peru’s mission to the OAS. Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave an overview of the Organization. Pablo Zuñiga, Senior Specialist, Secretariat for Political Affairs, spoke about the promotion of Democracy. Mario Lopez, Senior Human Rights Specialist, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, spoke about Human Rights in the region and Abraham Stein, Deputy Executive Secretary, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, discussed security issues in the Americas.

On August 22, 15 diplomats from throughout the Andean Region participating in Meridian International’s visitors program “The U.S. Political System, Foreign Policy and Competitiveness in The Global Marketplace” visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations and a briefing on the Organization from the Director of the Department of External Relations, Irene Klinger.

On August 15, 15 Latin American scholars from the Institute for Conflict Analysis & Resolution at George Mason University visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations and a briefing on educational missions of the OAS from Education Specialist, Jorge Baxter. Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave the participants an overview of OAS priorities.

On August 14, 45 Western Hemisphere military from WHINSEC visited the OAS Headquarters. The group received an OAS tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. Irene Klinger, Director, Department of External Relations, presented an OAS overview. Pablo Zúñiga, Senior Specialist, Secretariat for Political Affairs, spoke on democratic participation for the Promotion of Democracy. Victoria Gomez, Senior Specialist, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, spoke about Human Rights in the region and Abraham Stein, Deputy Executive Secretary, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, discussed multidimensional security.

On August 6, a group of students from the Universidad del Desarrollo de Chile visited the headquarters of the Organization of American States. The group was welcomed by Gina Ochoa, Specialist of the Department of External Relations, who also presented an overview of the historic building and its architectural details. The OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza, had a short meeting with the group, in which he explained the work of the OAS. Irene Klinger, Director of the Department of External Relations, opened the briefing session that was followed by expositions from three specialists of the technical areas of the OAS: Raúl Alconada, from the Subsecretariat of Political Affairs, Mario López-Garelli from the Inter-American Commission on Humans Rights and Abraham Stein form the Subsecretariat of Multidimensional Security. The group also participated in the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation for Caribbean nations between the OAS and Chile.

On July 27, 10 officers from the Guyana Defense Forces visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. The group was also given a specialized briefing by Yadira Soto, Advisor, Office of the Assistant Secretary General.

On July 26, 6 African government officials visited the OAS historic headquarters. The received a tour of the building by Lincoln Bernardes, specialist, Department of External Relations. The group received overview with an emphasis on democracy by Pablo Zuniga, Principal Specialist, Secretariat for Political Affairs.

On July 25, 6 Mexican journalists visited the OAS historic headquarters. Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave an overview on the Organization.  

On July 24, 25 students from Global Young Leaders visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. The group also received a briefing from the Director of the Director of the Department of External Relations, Irene Klinger about the Organization and Nelly Robinson about the Model Organization of American States.

On July 24, 14 master students from Ecuador visited the OAS historic headquarters. Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations, gave the students a tour of the building and Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave an overview on the Organization.

On July 23, 28 participants from the Washington Center for Internships visited the OAS historic headquarters. Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations, gave the students a tour of the building and Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave an overview on the Organization. The group also received a briefing on international law from John Wilson, Legal Advisor to the Department of International Legal Affairs.

On July 20, 42 students from the Universidad Comillas in Spain attending a program in conjunction with Georgetown University visited the OAS historic headquarters. The students were received by The Permanent Observer Representative of Spain to the OAS, Ambassador Juan Manuel Romero de Terreros Castilla. They toured the OAS main building with Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations and received an OAS overview from the director of the Department of External Relations, Irene Klinger. Magdalena Talamas, Chief, Public Relations of the DER also attended the briefing.  

On July 19, 20 students from the Haitian University visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations, gave the students a tour of the building and Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations, gave an overview on the Organization. The group received a specialized briefing on Haiti from Jean Ricot Dormeus, Advisor to the Office of the Assistant Secretary General.

On July 18, 25 high school students attending an International Law and Organization class at American University visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. The group was also given a specialized briefing by Yadira Soto, Advisor, Office of the Assistant Secretary General.

On July 18, 13 high school seniors studying economics and business at the Alexandria Economics Institute visited the OAS Historic Headquarters. The group received a tour of the building and a briefing on the Organization from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations.  

On July 18, 11 students for Asociación Conciencia de Argentina visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. The group also received a briefing from Irene Klinger about the OAS and Nelly Robinson about the Model Organization of American States.

On July 17, 15 master’s students from the Dominican Republic visited the OAS historical building. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. The group also was given a specialized briefing from Guillermo Rivera from the Mission of the Dominican Republic to the OAS.

On July 13, 20 Interns from Pan American Health Organization visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. Their visit also included a tour of the Art Museum of the Americas by Maria Leyva, Curator of Collections, Art Museum of the Americas.

On July 10, 61 participants from the “Centro de Altos Estudios Estratégicos” of El Salvador visited the OAS historic headquarters. Ambassador Castro de Perez, Permanent Representative of the Mission of El Salvador to the OAS greeted the group and spoke about the work of the Mission of El Salvador at the OAS. The group also received a tour from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations and a briefing on the OAS from the director of the Department of External Relations, Irene Klinger.

On July 6, five Chinese interpreters from the International Monetary Fund visited the OAS historic headquarters. The group received a tour on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations. The interpreters also received a specialized briefing about translation services from Patricia Cepeda, professional translator and interpreter for the OAS.

On July 3, 21 High School Global Young Leader students visited the OAS Historic Headquarters. The group received a tour and briefing on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations.  

On July 2, 31 students from California and Puerto Rico visited the OAS Historic Headquarters. The group received a tour and briefing on the OAS from Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations.
