The members of the Western Hemisphere Migratory Species Initiative (WHMSI) Steering Committee (SC) met in Washington D.C. at the Organization of American States headquarters to discuss progress after the 4th WHMSI Conference held in Miami, FL in December 2010 and discuss plans for 2013 and beyond.

The meeting gathered governmental wildlife officials, representatives of International Conventions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private philanthropy all interested in fostering international dialogue and cooperation on migratory species conservation. The WHMSI SC Meeting included:

  • Presentations by Steering Committee members on migratory species activities and recent work in their institutions.
  • Summary of 3 OAS FEMCIDI small grant tranches
  • Review evaluation and final selection of WHMSI small grants project proposals to support conservation efforts of marine migratory species categories and habitats of greatest concern.
  • Presentation and discussion on the Strategy on Integrating Migratory Bird Conservation Initiatives in the Americas
  • Group Discussion on Progress on WHMSI primary objectives and 5th WHMSI Conference
