Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC)

I Regular Meeting of the CIC
Mexico City, Mexico - 4-5 September 2003

The Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC) was created within the framework of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development, as a follow-up to the Plan of Action of the First Meeting of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Its purpose is to serve as the technical-political body that permits and facilitates the inter-American dialogue in the area of culture.

The Committee will monitor the mandates of the Summits of the Americas and the agreements made at the Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities. Specifically, it will analyze the feasibility study of the creation of an Inter-American Cultural Policy Observatory, in addition to the advances in the strategy of horizontal cooperation through the Permanent Portfolio of Consolidated Programs established by the Unit for Social Development and Education and Culture (UDSE), and will establish priority guidelines for course of action. The CIC must also reflect on the themes of cultural diversity to orient the elaboration of a work plan for the Hemisphere.
