The Organization of American States (OAS) and the University of Manchester have opened a scholarship offering for citizens of the Americas. Two full scholarships for PhD studies will be offered each year over the next three years, valued at over US$850,000.

The University of Manchester has the largest student community in the United Kingdom and offers over 400 degree programs. The institution counts 25 Nobel laureates--in Chemistry, Economic Sciences, Physics, Physiology and Medicine--among its past and present students and staff, and the University currently includes three Nobel laureates among its faculty, more than any other British university.

The OAS/University of Manchester scholarships commence Fall of 2015 and will be offered through the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, comprised of the following nine schools: Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy. The University of Manchester is widely recognized as a premier institution, particularly in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math) which are of priority for OAS member states.

This signing of the Memorandum of Understanding today, for the launch of this second
scholarship program between the OAS and the University of Manchester, is reflective of the existing strong ties between two strategic partners and will serve to further strengthen bonds between the United Kingdom and the Americas.

OAS-University of Manchester scholarship recipients will serve to enrich the University research community by offering diverse perspectives and innovative approaches to common challenges and upon completion of their doctoral studies will be well prepared to make significant contributions to the development of their respective countries.

The deadline to receive applications is June 15, 2015.
