BRAZIL SCHOLARSHIPS

Since its first edition in 2011, the OAS-GCUB Scholarship Program has offered 3,374 scholarships for master’s and doctoral degree programs in over 52 participating universities. Selected students come from 30 countries of the Americas. For the eighth edition of the program, more than 500 scholarships will be offered.

Through these advanced educational opportunities, the OAS and the GCUB support the training, development and networking of high-level human resources that contribute to the progress of their countries and strengthen the bonds of cooperation with Brazil. This is made possible by promoting greater integration between Brazilian universities and Latin America and the Caribbean; thus promoting scientific and cultural exchange, internationalization and the mobilization of outstanding students from the Americas.

TESTIMONIES

I left with many illusions of my country to complete my master's degree in medical microbiology. It has been a fantastic experience because in addition to the academic and scientific side, I was able to know and live in a country so rich such as Brazil. Since the beginning, I came across a cozy village and a delicious and different cuisine. At the scientific level, Brazil is on a good track and at least in my program, the requirement is high, which allowed me to write an article for my work of dissertation. For these and other reasons, I am eternally grateful to the OAS and the GCUB for the magnificent opportunity of personal and professional growth”.

Jaime Acosta, Ecuador, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2015

“The experience of studies in Brazil was very rewarding to me. They have ample resources for research development, as well as warm people willing to help and make the experience one of the most beautiful that anyone can have. Anyone who decides to start this adventure will find endless lessons that will last for a lifetime. Grateful forever for this opportunity given by the OAS and Brazil for these two wonderful years.”

Dimaris Gomez, Venezuela, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2015

“Having benefited from this scholarship had a very strong and positive impact on my life, as I was lucky enough to meet and live 2 years in an incredible country that opened its doors and welcomed me with open arms, provided me with great friendships, and unimaginable experiences at the personal, academic and professional levels. This experience definitely strengthened me on a personal level and made me grow a lot as a professional. I will have much to contribute when I return to my country. The realization of a dream that I will always remember, that helped me to grow and to realize myself as a person and a professional”.

Melissa Vaca, Bolivia,  scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2014

"I have recently graduated from the master program and nothing but gratitude can be expressed towards this scholarship program. I was given a great opportunity to extend my studies, which enabled me to discover a whole new world (as far as academic fields are concerned). Opting for a project that would be beneficial to the Caribbean region, cement and concrete research has increased my awareness of what is lacking in the islands, and however short, 2 years of blood and tears resulted in ideas and proposals with ‘concrete’ potential, hopefully to be implemented in Dominica over the next decade".

Bertilia Lauralee Bartley, Commonwealth of Dominica, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2013

The program to which I was accepted was the Master of Arts, Culture and Languages at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. It was adjusted to my interests, and thanks to this master's degree, I was also able to travel to other places, presenting my research in other academic spaces. Brazil is a wonderful country, and the friendship that is woven with other Latin American scholars, becomes a family that accompanies you during this time”.

Andres Piza, Colombia, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2015

“I’m a witness on how this opportunity, besides giving me important tools for my professional live with a degree and knowledge from one of the best universities worldwide, opened my eyes to new perspectives that can be applied to everyday life, at a professional and country level. Cultural challenges, language and history enrich professionals in their battle to solve problems. There are a lot of benefits from this experience, from publications in scientific journals, international congresses, important presentations, even friends, adventures and new places”.

Fabricio Richmond Navarro, Costa Rica, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2011

“Studying in Brazil, has not only allowed me to absorb knowledge; it has helped me to interact with different people in different fields, from student, professional and scientific level. People always say that the hardest part of studying outside your country is to learn to speak the language of that foreign country, and that it will probably be a barrier”.

Walter Danilo Maradiaga, Honduras, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2013

"This has been an unforgettable experience, it is a learning process and a permanent and daily challenge. For instance, learning the Portuguese language, making new friends, adapting to a new culture of a country so diverse and historically rich such as Brasil. My professional life changed dramatically for better and I will use the acquired knowledge to serve the people I work with. This scholarship has allowed me to access high quality education and continuing my postgraduate studies. My life was transformed, I will never forget it".

Sergio Antonio Astudillo Leite, Chile, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2013

“This experience was the most rewarding for my professional life because now that I have returned to my country, I managed to get a job in my state linked to my degree and I am applying a lot of what I learned during those years in Brazil. The experience to immerse myself in a different educational system was very interesting and allowed me to reflect in the Argentine educational system, especially about higher education, where I work as a teacher".

Daniela Torrisi, Argentina, scholarship recipient OAS-GCUB 2013
