The Network

The Inter-American Network for the Prevention of Violence and Crime is a mechanism to establish and support the dialogue, exchange of knowledge and practices among policymakers, academics, specialists, government officials, private sector and the general public in the area of violence and crime prevention throughout the Americas.

Its mission is to facilitate the interaction and cooperation among different sectors to increase knowledge and promote the development of more efficient and effective policies, initiatives and programs to prevent violence and crime and to create safer and more peaceful societies in the hemisphere.

Through the collection and dissemination of data and the exchange of ideas and experiences you can help build up this Network. Feel free to participate in the virtual forums, suggest topics for discussion, share information on events, publications, photos and videos. Welcome to the Network!

This Network is hosted by the Department of Public Security of the Secretariat of Multidimensional Security of the Organization of American States.

Anna Paula Uchoa
Anna Paula Uchoa

Anna Paula is a Brazilian Public Policies and Social Communication Specialist. Over the past 15 years she has experienced different positions in public policies design, modernization and implementation with highlights to the Brazilian national policy on drugs, the Brazilian rating system for audiovisual content and the Brazilian Program for Public Security with Citizenship. In the social communications field, she performed as press officer to the Brazilian President for the period of 2013 and 2015. In the Organization of American States, Anna Paula is the Chief of the Section for the Prevention of Violence and Crime at the Department of Public Security.

Mariano Vales

Mariano Vales is part of the team that designed the Inter-American Program for the Prevention of Violence and Crime. He is an experienced project manager with ample hands-on skills designing, negotiating and implementing youth violence prevention programs to develop life skills in at risk youth, acquired through the development of orchestra and choir training programs in Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, El Salvador. Mariano earned a Master's degree in Orchestra Conducting from Yale University and is the music director/conductor of the DC Youth Orchestra. He has dedicated most of his career to the issue of social inclusion through music.

Jane Piazer

Jane has been working for the Organization of American States (OAS) since 2008 building expertise on communications, education, culture and crime and violence prevention. Jane has extensive experience in project design and implementation, budgeting, developing communication strategies and designing communication materials. She has cultivated strong relationships with government authorities, civil society, and various stakeholders. Jane has been volunteering with refugee families in Maryland for the past four years and has a M.A in International Development Studies from the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University. She has focused her academic research on conflict resolution and the challenges faced by refugees and IDPs in camps and urban and rural areas, more specifically in Africa and Latin America. She is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish and has extensive research experience with qualitative methods and monitoring and evaluation.
