Official sources of national crime statistics:

• In 2018 the Observatory on Gender-based Violence towards Women was created within the Ministry of Social Development, and jointly with the National Institute of Statistics led the Second National Survey on the  Prevalence of Gender and Generations-based Violence, that took place in 2019, and was published in 2020.

• In 1995, Uruguay launched the Public Security Management System (SGPS, for its acronym in Spanish), to register all police related incidents (crimes, accidents) that take place in the country.

• The National Observatory on Violence and Crime was created in 2005, under the Ministry of Interior. Its information is updated quarterly. 

• The Uruguayan Criminal Procedure Computer System (SIPPAU, for its acronym in Spanish) is under the General Prosecutor’s Office. SIPPAU, is also the IT tool for the implementation of the Code of Accusatory, Oral and Public Criminal Procedure.
