Legislative Process

In the Inter-American context, harmonization and codification of private international law has largely taken place through the Specialized Conferences on Private International Law or, in Spanish, Conferencias Especializadas sobre Derecho Internacional Privado. These have become known by their Spanish acronym as “CIDIP.”

Since 1979, there have been seven such conferences that have produced 26 international instruments. In relation to secured transactions, these include the Model Inter-American Law on Secured Transactions and the Model Registry Regulations under the Model Law.
