The Department of International Law (DIL) of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the OAS promotes the development and codification of international law, both public and private, advises the political bodies of the Organization and serves as Technical Secretariat of the Inter-American Juridical Committee. In addition, DIL promotes the teaching and dissemination of international law within the framework of the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law, which was approved by the OAS General Assembly in 1997 and updated in 2011. 

It also acts as depositary of:
