Mandate

This work is carried out in furtherance of mandates from the OAS General Assembly, which has instructed the Department “…to continue promoting among member states further dissemination of private international law, in collaboration with organizations and associations engaged in this area, including the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Hague Conference on Private International Law, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), and the American Association of Private International Law (ASADIP)” (AG/RES. 2930, June 2019) and “…to enlist the cooperation of other actors interested in promoting and applying private international law as a cooperation tool to seek to reactivate the economy, strengthen small businesses, resolve conflicts between individuals, and provide legal certainty to private, cross-border activities of all persons in the Hemisphere” (AG RES. 2959, October 2020).
