Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC)


The Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC) serves as a forum for discussion at the technical - policy level for matters of Culture. It is composed of representatives from the Ministries of Culture and highest appropriate authorities from Member States. Its main function is to follow the implementation of the mandates of the Declarations and Plans of Action of the Ministerial Meetings on Culture, as well as of those that emanate from the Summits of the Americas. The Techincal Secretariat of CIC is the Section of Culture and Tourism.

The CIC Authorities for 2015-2016 were elected during the Sixth Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities, held in August 12-13, 2014 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Plenary Meetings of the Inter-American Committee on Culture:

The CIC holds periodical Regular Meetings in which representatives of the 34 OAS member States develop a Work Plan based on the mandates of the Summit of the Americas and the priorities established by the Ministers of Culture. The meetings can take place in any member state or at the Headquarters of the General Secretariat. (Article 7 of the Rules of Procedure).

Meetings of the Authorities of the CIC:

Meetings of the Authorities of the CIC are open to participation by representatives of all member States. They are referenced in the Rules of Procedure of the CIC which stipulate that the elected CIC Authorities (the Chair and Vice-Chairs) are responsible for the coordination of CIC for carrying out any specific functions that the Committee may assign to them, as well as maintaining permanent working relations with the Member States and the General Secretariat of the OAS.
