The Inter-American Network for Police Development and Professionalization (REDPPOL) is an initiative of the Department of Public Security (DSP) of the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States, which is conceived as an integral and comprehensive regional mechanism to strengthen and improve the capabilities of police institutions. REDPPOL was designed by the DSP considering the results of a diagnosis of police training needs conducted in 2014 by the Department, in collaboration with the liaison office of the Police Community of the Americas (AMERIPOL) to the OAS. The diagnosis was based on documentary consultations, analysis and input from a large number of experts, and its results allowed for the identification and understanding of the main challenges and knowledge needs in the area of police training.

It is planned to hold a face-to-face course every two years with the participation of two police officers from each OAS member state. The one-month course is an important tool to facilitate the exchange of experiences among police officers of the Americas and also to standardize knowledge in the modules covered in each edition.

The First Face-to-Face Police Training Course, which was held in La Paz, Honduras from September 11 to October 10, 2017 at the facilities of the Instituto Tecnológico Policial de Honduras and 58 police officers, including 26 women, from 27 OAS Member States participated.
