Initiatives for the expansion of Telecommunications / ICT in rural areas and in unserved or underserved areas"

As a result of the implementation of AG/RES. 2966 (LI-O/21) "Initiatives for the expansion of Telecommunications / ICT in rural areas and in unserved or underserved areas" which created 21 initiatives that are the basis for roadmaps to connect hard-to-reach areas in the OAS Member States, as of June 2023, the following progress has been made:

• Ecuador Case

• Dominican Republic Case -  Investigation stage completed and roadmap in the process of approval.

• Paraguay Case  - Investigation stage in process

The 2030 ICT Alliance for the Americas is an initiative of the OAS Secretary General that strives to promote the region’s development through ICTs, recognizing the need to support OAS member states on the road to mainstreaming ICTs into their national policies in the framework of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The objective of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of specific actions to improve connectivity of rural areas an achieve the developmenty of digital services and capabilities that would facilitate their use of ICTS, thus reducing the digital gap.
