The Organization of Women of the Americas (OWA) on Sunday, May 22, in the OAS Aztec Garden will hold the Thirteenth Food Festival of the Americas at 11:00, an event that invites the public to enjoy the different foods, music, and typical dances of the countries of the continent. The entrance to this event is FREE.
During the event, there will be a drawing of 21 prizes, including plane tickets, restaurant gift certificates, and hotel accommodations. There will also be a silent auction where participants will be able to chose from a hotel in the Bahamas, a cruise in the Galapagos Islands, art and more.
The gathering that the women of the OWA organize each year has commendable objectives, the first being to help infant hospitals and other institutions of the different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean for children in need.
To participate in the drawing, those interested will be able to buy the ticket the same day of the event or in advance, at a cost of 10 dollars by sending an email to the following address: [email protected]. The silent auction will take place during the Festival.
The OWA is a nonprofit organization, founded and made up of the spouses of the ambassadors and permanent observers to the OAS and other members. Currently Teresa Casaes, wife of the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the OAS, presides over the organization.
Since its founding, the OWA has given contributions to the Oncology Unit of the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C; the Caribbean American Intercultural Organization; the Assistance Fund for Victims of Anti-personnel Mines in Central America, the "Casa Rosada" home for children with AIDS in the Dominican Republic; Programs of the Mother Theresa of Calcutta's Missionaries of Charity, in Washington, D.C; the San José de Malambo Orphanage in Panama, among others.
