OAS Secretary General Meets with the President of Costa Rica

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) today met with the President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, at the presidential residence at Zapote.

During the meeting, in which the Costa Rican Foreign Minister Enrique Castillo also participated, the leaders discussed the current regional political context and the cooperation between the OAS, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Ministry of Justice in the prevention of violence, an issue on which a cooperation agreement was signed today between the OAS and the Costa Rican government.

In addition, President Chinchilla thanked Secretary General Insulza for the deployment of a Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) to the country for the general elections of February 2, 2014. The Mission carried out a preliminary visit in December.
