Course on International Law

The Course on International Law is an event organized annually since 1974 by the Inter-American Juridical Committee and the Department of International Law of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs (SLA) of the Organization of American States. Currently, the length of this Course is three weeks, and it takes place in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, every August.

Each year, the OAS offers a limited number of scholarships for young professionals from all OAS Member States with a degree on international law or international relations. The announcement to apply for scholarships is published in late winter-spring every year; the application requirements are included in the announcement. It is also possible to apply as a self-financed student.

The comprehensive curriculum includes a broad range of legal topics with an international focus and seeks to help attorneys gain an integral perspective on the most relevant issues in the international arena and specifically, in the Inter-American System.

The Course on International Law constitutes a unique opportunity to promote the exchange of ideas and generate an open dialogue, foster in-depth analysis and provide a valuable networking opportunity. Classes are taught by prestigious professors, diplomats and experts from the Americas.

Classes given during the Course are published in annual volumes.
