Inauguration of the First Pilot Ethanol Plant in Honduras - July 15, 2014

The Plant was created with the technical support of the Organization of American States (OAS) with the “Memorandum of Understanding Between the Government of the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Government of the United States of America to Advance the Cooperation on Biofuels” from 2007. The Plant is a huge step forward in the endeavor for the development of a sustainable Bio-Ethanol industry in Honduras. It also contributes to the growth of the agricultural sector of the region, since the plant uses the cane sugar produced by small-scale local cultivators.

The Inauguration was held at the National University of Agriculture and the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza and the President of the Republic of Honduras, His Excellency Juan Orlando Hernández were both in attendance. Mrs. V. Sherry Tross, Executive Secretary for Integral Development (SEDI) and different authorities from Honduras, Brazil and the United States of America also attended.
