A common heritage as well as shared goals and values unite the Organization of American States (OAS) with its many partners in the region. In recent years, the OAS has established agreements and expanded affiliations with the private sector, non-governmental organizations, civil society as well as academic institutions aimed at advancing the work it carries out in the hemisphere and promoting its purposes and principles. Together, the OAS and this international community are building strong partnerships to surmount common concerns and further mutual success for the peoples of the Americas.

- Transparency
Good internal governance is essential for success. In 2008, the General Secretariat implemented internal reforms to modernize its operations and make them more transparent and accountable, conscious that it has a responsibility to optimize the resources provided by the member states, observer countries, and other donors.
By strengthening its efficiency, transparency, and accountability, the Organization will be better equipped to tackle the region's complex challenges and advance an agenda for the Americas grounded in democracy, human rights, security and development. See the Report of Independent Auditors.
