Panel of Experts Discuss OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza’s Presentation at the Lecture Series of the Americas

A pre-recorded program to be transmitted on Tuesday, August 2, 2005, via radio, television and Internet will examine the issues discussed during the 7th conference in the monthly Lecture Series of the Americas by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, in his presentation entitled "Hemispheric Integration: An Overview of Challenges and Perspectives."

Those participating in the panel discussion that followed the keynote lecture held at the San Martín de Porres University in Lima, Peru, this past July 15, were Michael Shifter, Vice President for Policy at the Inter-American Dialogue; José Antonio García Belaunde, Advisor to the Andean Community of Nations; and Rafael Roncagliolo of IDEA International. Irene Klinger, Director of the OAS Department of Communications and External Relations and Coordinator of the Lecture Series of the Americas program, moderated the panel discussion.

During the lecture OAS Secretary General Insulza said that "poverty and unemployment are to blame for the problems of governance and instability in Latin American countries."
