Department of Communications and External Relations

The Press Department (PD):

  • Assists the Secretary General (SG), the Assistant Secretary General (ASG), and the Permanent Council (PC) in their relations with the media in fulfillment of their official functions.
     

  • Proposes and executes the communications strategy of the SG, ASG, and PC, aimed at conveying the Organization’s political message to the media on a day-to-day basis.
     

  • Remains in close contact with national and international media to keep them informed of the Organization’s agenda, programs, and upcoming and recent activities.
     

  • Prepares, produces, and distributes daily press releases and press invitations, according to information provided by the organs involved.
     

  • Organizes the Organization’s press and communications logistics for the OAS General Assembly.
     

  • Produces and transmits via the Internet a summary of the major news items dominating the public agenda of the OAS member states.
     

  • Establishes and maintains relations with the communications media in the member states, to facilitate and promote the publication of articles on the OAS and on the activities of the SG, ASG, and the CP.
     

  • Produces and disseminates photographic material on OAS activities and programs to all the media in the Hemisphere.
