The Inter-American system comprises the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank, and several other subregional organizations, entities and institutions. Some of them are listed here:


»
Andean Community

The Andean Community is a subregional organization pursuing the objectives of intensifying Andean country’s integration, promote its external projection, and reinforce the actions connected with the integrations process. 


» Andean Development Corporation

The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) is a multilateral financial institution that promotes the sustainable development of its shareholder countries and regional integration. 


» Association of Caribbean States (ACS)

The ACS was established with the aim of promoting consultation, cooperation and concerted action among all the countries of the Caribbean, comprising 25 Member States and three Associate Members


» Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM)

The Caribbean Community, of which the Common Market is an integral part, provides full employment of labor and other factors of production, improved standards of living and work, and the achievement of a greater measure of economic leverage and effectiveness of its Member States.


» Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI)

CABEI is the largest financial institution in Central America which works toward the fight against poverty, regional integration and the competitive insertion of Central America in the global economy. 


» Central American Economic Integration Secretariat (SIECA)

The Secretariat for Central American Integration (SIECA) is the regional technical body, established as a legal entity, whose main function is to provide technical and administrative assistance to the Central American economic integration process of the Central American Integration System (SICA).


» Central American Integration System (SICA)

The basic objective of SICA is to achieve Central American integration, in order to make Central America a region of peace, freedom, democracy, and development, firmly grounded in the observance, protection, and promotion of human rights. 


» Economic Commission for Latin-America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)

ECLAC is a regional commission of the United Nations which aims to contribute to the social and economic development of Latin America and the Caribbean, reinforcing economic relationships among the countries.  


» Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)

During the Summit of the Americas held in December 1994, in Miami, the Heads of Government of the Hemisphere agreed to construct the FTAA, in which barriers to trade and investment will be progressively eliminated. 


» Inter-American Children’s Institute

This is the OAS organization charged with developing activities that contribute to the protection of children and to the improvement of their quality of life.


» Inter-American Commission of Women

This is the principal forum for generating hemispheric policy to advance women’s rights and gender equality. 


» Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

The Commission provides recourse to individuals who have suffered violations of their rights and works with states to help strengthen the laws and institutions that provide human rights protections. 


» Inter-American Court of Human Rights

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights is an autonomous judicial institution whose purpose is the application and interpretation of the American Convention on Human Rights. 


» Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)

The IDB is the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development projects as well as trade and regional integration programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. 


» Inter-American Indian Institute

The main purpose of the III is to compile scientific research, legislation, historical archives and other documents related to indigenous populations in the hemisphere.


» Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)

The IICA fosters agricultural development and rural well-being through the modernization of the rural sector, the promotion of food security and the development of an agricultural sector that is competitive, technologically prepared, environmentally managed and socially equitable.


» Inter-American Institute of Human Rights

This is a center for teaching, research and promotion of human rights whose mission is to promote and strengthen respect for the principles set out in the American Convention on Human Rights.


» Inter-American Juridical Committee

The Committee serves the OAS as an advisory body on juridical matters of an international nature and promotes the progressive development and the codification of international law.


» Latin American Economic System (SELA)

The SELA is a regional intergovernmental organization that promotes a consultation and coordination system for the consensus and common strategies for the Latin American and Caribbean region on economic issues 


» Latin-American Integration Association

The ALADI, the largest Latin-American group of integration, promotes the creation of an area of economic preferences in the region, aiming at a Latin-American common market. 


» Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)

The PAHO serves as the specialized organization for health of the Inter-American System. It also serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization and enjoys international recognition as part of the United Nations system.


» Pan American Institute of Geography and History PAIGH

PAIGH is a specialized Organization of the OAS and its objective is to encourage coordinate and publicize cartographic, geographic, geophysical and historical studies as well as related sciences of interest to the Americas.


» Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR)

The MERCOSUR is a political agreement and a trading zone between Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela and Paraguay. One of its purposes is to promote free trade and the fluid movement of goods, peoples, and currency.


» Summits of the Americas Process

The Summit of the Americas brings together the Heads of Government of the Western Hemisphere to discuss common concerns, seek solutions and develop a shared vision for their future development of the region, be it economic, social or political in nature.
