OAS Secretary General Welcomes Designation of Prime Minister of Haiti
October 5, 2011
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, congratulated the Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Conille, after his ratification to the position of Prime Minister by the Haitian Senate, and valued the step forward that this designation means for the political process in the Caribbean country.
“I congratulate Prime Minister Conille on his confirmation and wish him all the success in his new job leading his country’s Government,” said Secretary General Insulza. He added that regarding the tasks ahead for the Government of President Michel Martelly, “the consolidation of his team will be a fundamental step, because the responsibility is great and the tasks to be undertaken are urgent.”
Secretary General Insulza said that “at the OAS we are ready, under his guidance, to keep working towards the country’s reconstruction and development.”
The head of the Hemispheric Organization also congratulated the Haitian Parliament “on having shown maturity and the ability to compromise with the aim of solving an ‘impasse’ that was only damaging to Haiti and the Haitian people,” he said.
