Central American and Caribbean CEOs to Meet with OAS Assistant Secretary General
August 15, 2011
Approximately 25 CEOs and business leaders from Central America and the Caribbean are scheduled to meet this week in El Salvador with the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert R. Ramdin, to discuss strengthening trade relations between both regions, in the face of economic challenges in the hemisphere.
The meeting of CEOs, which will take place on the sidelines of the Third SICA CARICOM Summit of Leaders in San Salvador, was convened following requests by government and private sector officials of both regions to Assistant Secretary General Ramdin.
Trade and Industry Ministers of four countries—El Salvador, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica—will join the business leaders for the meeting scheduled to take place August 18, 2011, in San Salvador.
According to Assistant Secretary General Ramdin, the meeting will facilitate serious discussions about common economic challenges and come up with creative solutions. “We want open and frank discussions on co-operation as we work to build new partnerships and strategic alliances,” said Ramdin. “The economic slowdown affects millions of people in both regions. More opportunities for trade and investment mean job opportunities, secure wages, fewer lay-offs. We must use every opportunity to work together, ”stated the OAS official.
