The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB), with the support of the Education Division of the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, have partnered to support outstanding individuals of the Americas by granting up to 50 academic scholarships for master’s degree programs in Brazilian universities.
This initiative, launched in the framework of the OAS Partnerships Program for Education and Training (PAEC), seeks to promote the greater integration of Brazilian universities in the region while fostering scientific and cultural exchange, increasing international mobility of students in the Americas and promoting human development.
The scholarship benefits include full university tuition and registration costs, a fixed stipend of 1,200 Raeis per month for subsistence, and a one-time payment of 1,500 USD to help defray the costs of travel. While the language of instruction for the available master’s degree programs is Portuguese, there is no requirement for formal Portuguese-language training for applicants whose native language is Spanish. Applicants whose native language is neither Portuguese nor Spanish must provide proof of having an intermediate level of Portuguese either by virtue of standardized language exam results or relevant course certificates.
Supported master’s degree programs will be delivered onsite in one of 15 participating universities located in different regions of Brazil. The deadline to apply for the OAS-GCUB scholarships is September 9th, 2011. Classes will begin in March of 2012.
