OAS Secretary General Expresses Concern for Serious Situation in Korean Peninsula

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today expressed deep concern for the grave situation in the Korean peninsula, the outcome of violence in the border area between the Republic of South Korea and North Korea.

In addition to sending his condolences to the South Korean government for the deaths of two of its soldiers, Secretary General Insulza emphasized dialogue as the sole path towards lessening the tension between the two countries and called on the North Korean army to avoid new acts of aggression.

The head of the OAS urged the international community to support all efforts towards promoting dialogue and the normalization of the situation in the peninsula.
