November 2, 2013
The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS) for the general elections of November 24 in Honduras installed a group of observers this week, following up on a visit made to the country the week of October 21 by the Chief of Mission Enrique Correa.
The group of observers will tour the different areas of the country, in order to monitor compliance with the electoral calendar and the political campaign. To that end, the group will hold meetings with local election officials and representatives of political parties and civil society.
In addition, a team made up of an auditor and computer technicians has begun to audit the new Integrated System of Electoral Vote Counting and Disclosure (SIEDE) which will be used for the elections of November 24. This work will allow for the verification of the technical quality and transparency of the new system.
Over the coming weeks, the EOM/OAS will deploy a total of 70 international observers throughout the country. On election day, observers will visit polling stations from opening until closing, also observing the counting of votes and transmission of results.
