The 12th "Ibero-American Course on Technology, Operations and Environmental Management of Ports," organized by the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in conjunction with the entity Puertos del Estado de España (State Ports of Spain), concluded today in Santander, Spain.
The course, which began on October 15, provided specialized and state-of-the-art training in techniques and technologies associated with port activities, port operations and environmental management and port security, using the most advanced methods and techniques in these fields.
Fifteen professionals from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela attended the course.
The Closing Ceremony, held today, was attended by Maryse Robert, the head of the Commerce section of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP); José Llorca, the President of Puertos del Estado, as well as other local and national authorities in the field. In her address, Robert stressed the importance of technical training for port experts in the region to improve the productivity and competitiveness of Member States.
The course is the result of ongoing cooperation between the CIP and Puertos del Estado de España since 2003 and was also held thanks to the support of the Port Authority of Santander and the University of Cantabria in Spain.
The CIP is the permanent Inter-American forum at the highest government level on ports, which promotes the strengthening of dialogue, technical and institutional capacities to further cooperation through public-private partnerships in the 34 OAS Member States of the OAS. The CIP was created in 1956 as the Inter-American Port Conference, and became the Inter-American Commission in 1998.
