OAS and the Atlantic OSHA Training Center of Puerto Rico Offer Scholarship Opportunities for Professional Development Courses

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Atlantic OSHA Training Center of Puerto Rico, through the Universidad Metropolitana of Puerto Rico (UMET), in a joint effort to promote education in the Americas, have launched a grant scholarship opportunity for the training course, “Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry and Construction.”
The course, to be taught in English, has a duration of 11 days, from March 14 to 25, 2011, and will be held in Panama City, Panama. The deadline to submit applications is November 30, 2010, at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC.
The OAS/OSHA scholarships are offered to citizens and/or permanent residents of OAS English-speaking Caribbean Member States who have been involved in the occupational safety and health fields for at least two years. Upon completion of the training course, they must be in a position to share the acquired knowledge with a large number of workers and to adopt, in their respective jobs, occupational safety and health recommendations.
The Universidad Metropolitana (UMET) is a private institution of higher learning in Puerto Rico renowned for the local and global relevance of its academic programs, its commitment to environmental issues and its leadership in science and technology.
INEDA is the Institute of Environmental Education of UMET, established in 1990 as a comprehensive environmental education center. INEDA is also the Center Site for the National Institute of Environmental Health Science, Hazardous Waste Worker Training and Hazardous Disaster Preparedness Training.
The OAS, through its Department of Human Development, Education and Culture, supports member countries in creating policies and executing programs that promote Human Capacity Development at all educational levels.
