EOM/OAS: Observed stages of the electoral process were carried out in accordance to the law and with normalcy

  September 10, 2015

The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS) to Guatemala reaffirmed today that the multiple observed stages and levels of the electoral process were carried out in accordance with the law and with normalcy.

The Mission, which is continuing its task during the final count, conducted a rigorous technical work that included the observation of voting centers and computer systems.

The Chief of Mission, Juan Pablo Corlazzoli, recalled today that "the Supreme Electoral Tribunal is the only official authority to give the results of the elections held on Sunday, September 6." In that regard, he called on all political actors to respect the institutionality of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE, by its Spanish acronym).

Furthermore, the Mission commended the TSE for making public the images of the official records of the count, through its Website, which adds transparency to the process.

The Mission reiterated that complaints and appeals must be channeled in accordance with the procedures established by law. It also called on the various political forces to act responsibly and to the benefit of Guatemalan democracy.
