The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today praised King Juan Carlos of Spain for the role he played in a key phase of Spanish history.
"His decisive leadership in one of the most successful political transitions in the world, during times of great uncertainty, was exemplary, as were the institutional wisdom and ease with which King Juan Carlos acted at key moments for Spain's democracy," he said.
The highest representative of the OAS expressed his certainty that "history will record his determining role in the rebirth of Spanish democracy." "His abdication today, opening the door to new generations, confirms his quality as a leader," he added.
