OAS Secretary General Clarifies Position on Presence of Honduras in Europe-Latin America-Caribbean Summit

  May 13, 2010

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today reaffirmed his position, expressed yesterday during a conference of the Council of the Americas, on the presence of Honduras in the Europe-Latin America-Caribbean Summit.

Insulza reiterated that, in his opinion, “the decision to invite Honduras should have been consulted with the participants of the Summit and specifically the Latin American participants before issuing an invitation, and this would have avoided the disputes that followed as a result.”

Secretary General Insulza considered the clarification necessary because of incorrect interpretations of his comments that appeared in some media outlets of the continent.
