OAS Secretary General Congratulates Néstor Kirchner on his Election as Head of UNASUR

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, sent his regards to the newly elected Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and former President of Argentina, Néstor Kirchner.

In his missive, Secretary General Insulza praises the political leadership of the former president and highlights the founding principles that guide the work of the subregional organization. With respect to these, the OAS Secretary General noted the similarities between the two organizations, indicating that, "Their members have defined the strengthening of democracy and human rights, development, regional integration and security as some of the main objectives of UNASUR. These worthy goals also motivate the activities of the Organization of American States."
