OAS Approves Five Million Dollars for More than 70 Projects in 32 Member Countries

The Organization of American States (OAS) approved five million dollars for the implementation beginning in May 2010 of more than 70 projects on education, social development, science and technology, sustainable development, tourism, commerce, and culture and democracy in 32 of its member countries.

The OAS provides such cooperation through its Special Multilateral Fund of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (FEMCIDI), established in 1997 and supported by the member countries of the Organization through annual voluntary contributions.

The amount of five million dollars was approved by the OAS Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development (IACD), which is in charge of managing, evaluating and supervising the activities of cooperation of the Organization. The projects will be executed between May 2010 and June 30, 2011, and are focused on reducing inequity and promoting equality of opportunity in the hemisphere through the promotion of human resources training and institutional strengthening.
