Hotel Association of Colombia Signs Cooperation Agreement with the OAS and is Accepted as an Associate Member of CITUR

The Organization of American States (OAS) signed a cooperation agreement with the Hotel and Tourist Association of Colombia (COTELCO), at the 59th Annual Meeting of Affiliates of the Colombian entity, held in Ibague on March 14 and 15.
According to the document signed, the hemispheric organization and the Colombian Association agree to work together to promote sustainable tourism policies: support the strengthening of the capacities of private institutions; promote the development and implementation of joint research projects; facilitate the exchange of professional personnel to strengthen curricula and research; process the collection of tourism statistics; encourage the development of indicators of competitiveness; develop and promote Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises; structure and execute training, symposia, academic forums and spaces for the dissemination, discussion, update, and scheduling of inherent issues of importance to the development of tourism: and promote corporate social responsibility in the tourism sector.
During the Annual Meeting it was also announced that the application for associate membership of COTELCO to become member of the Inter-American Commission for Tourism (CITUR) was accepted, making it the first bank to be accepted in this category within the Commission.
The OAS General Assembly decided to establish the category of associate member of the CITUR to allow participation in the Inter-American institution of administrative bodies and operators of tourism businesses; academic, scientific, commercial, development, financial, and industrial institutions, as well as other organizations linked to the tourism sector with legal standing.
