Heads of State of the Americas to Meet at the OAS Permanent Council to Analyze the Evolution of COVID 19

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold a virtual special meeting on Thursday, September 30, to consider the evolution of the Covid 19 pandemic in the region and evaluate joint actions against a possible third wave. The meeting will feature the participation of several Heads of State, the Director General of the World Health Organization, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the United States.
“The pandemic has made it clear that we need more coordinated action and effective cooperation to confront this terrible scourge. Hence the importance of this hemispheric mini-summit,” said the Chair of the Permanent Council of the Inter-American organization, the Peruvian Harold Forsyth.
In the virtual event, to be held with the active collaboration of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), participants will include the presidents of Colombia, Iván Duque; Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei; Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández; Peru, Pedro Castillo; the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley; foreign and health ministers of the member states; the Director General of the World Health Organization, Thedros Ghebreyesus, and the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro.
