June 22, 2016
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, called the announcement to be made tomorrow in Havana, Cuba by the Government of Colombia and the FARC-EP "a transcendental step in the road to peace."
The desire for peace in Colombia has been an aspiration of the people of Colombia and the nations of the hemisphere for decades.
With this, Colombia becomes an example for the rest of the world due to the Bilateral and Definitive Ceasefire and End to Hostilities, the Laying Down of Arms and other issues related to the end of the conflict, to be announced tomorrow.
Secretary General Almagro reiterated "once more, the commitment and the unceasing desire of the OAS to continue supporting Colombia in putting an end to the injustice and inequalities of the war."
The OAS Mission to Support the Peace Process (MAPP/OAS) will continue to work to generate favorable conditions for post-agreement and post-conflict scenarios in Colombia.
