OAS General Secretariat Receives Letter from the MUD

Ambassador Hugo de Zela, Chief of Staff of the Organization of American States (OAS), today received at the headquarters of the OAS in Washington, DC, Laura Rojas, who in representation of the Mesa de Unidad Democrática Party (MUD) of Venezuela handed in a letter addressed to Secretary General José Miguel Insulza, explaining the party’s position regarding recent developments in Venezuela.

In the letter, the leadership of the Venezuelan opposition presents a summary of legal arguments that sustains that recent developments in Venezuela constitute a "violation of the constitution" of the country. For his part, Ambassador De Zela assured the representative of the MUD in Washington, DC that the General Secretariat is closely observing the political developments in Venezuela, and guaranteed that the Inter-American Democratic Charter is at the base of all analysis emanating from that observation.

Ambassador De Zela thanked the MUD for delivery of the document, on behalf of the Secretary General, and reiterated to Laura Rojas that the OAS remains permanently available to listen to the positions of the Venezuelan opposition party.
