OAS Organizes Meeting on Effective Firearms Marking in Costa Rica

Representatives and authorities from 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean responsible for preventing the illegal traffic of firearms will meet on December 1st and 2nd in San José, Costa Rica, in the context of the seminar, “Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean,” organized by the Organization of American States (OAS). The event seeks to promote discussion and the exchange of experiences on the subject.
The meeting is part of a broader regional project that seeks to strengthen national capabilities in this field, and to control the illicit traffic of imported and confiscated firearms. The seminar will address issues such as the methodology and practical tools used in the identification of firearms, national legislation, policies and practices in this area, firearms tracking and relevant national experiences.
