Each year in April, the OAS Board of External Auditors publishes a report covering the previous calendar year’s financial results. Reports covering 1996-2016 may be found here.

OAS and Panama Organize Workshop on the Prevention of Cyber Security Incidents

The Organziation of American States (OAS), through the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE), with the support of the Attorney General of the Republic and the National Authority for Governmental Innovation of Panama, will organize a National Seminar/Workshop on the Prevention and Investigation of Cyber Security Incidents on November 24-25 at the Marriot Hotel in the Panamanian capital.
The goal of this activity is to bring together Panamanian government officials to share experiences with other countries regarding inter-institutional cooperation in the management of cyber security incidents. In the discussions, taken into account will be the experiences of other countries and regions regarding cyber security policies and strategies, tendencies and emerging threats, the development of National Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs), as well as the management of cyber incidents.
In the opening ceremony, scheduled to participate are: Jose Eduardo Ayu Prado Canals, Attorney General of Panama; Eduardo E. Jaen, Administrator General of the Panamanian Authority for Governmental Innovation; and Ambassador Abigail Castro de Perez, Representative of the OAS in Panama. Among others, invited experts include members of CERTUy (Uruguay), ColCERT (Colombia), Venezuela (VenCERT), and a member of the Working Group on Cybercrime of the Meetings of Ministers of Justice or Attorneys General or other Ministers of the Americas (REMJA) and an employee of the CICTE Secretariat. This activity is being funded by the government of Canada.
On September 27, by an executive decree signed by the President of Panama, Ricardo Matinelli, and the Minister of the Presidency, Demetrio Papadimitriumm CSIRT-PANAMA was created. The official document states that this measure is necessary for Panama due to the increasing frequency, sophistication, and scale,” of attempts to breach secure information systems. The National Authority of Governmental Innovation will be in charge of implementing, operating, and administrating CSIRT-PANAMA. This new entity is tasked to take all necessary actions to prevent, manage, identify, and resolve attacks and security incidents involving information systems and State communications.
