OAS Conducts Workshop to Boost Productivity of SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean

On September 21st and 22nd in San Antonio, Texas, the Organization of American States (OAS) will conduct the Regional Workshop, “Innovation and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for the Productivity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)”, in which the authorities heading the portfolios of SMEs from 17 of the region’s countries will participate, as well as regional organizations such as the Economic Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The principal objective of this meeting is to promote an exchange of experiences in support of the SMEs and contribute to development of their competitive agendas in Latin America and the Caribbean, within the framework of the Annual Conference of the Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC).
During the workshop effective public policies will be revealed to promote the innovation and use of ICTs for the productivity of SMEs in Latin America; new recommendations will be formulated explaining how to sustain these policies throughout the region; and both the Model for Small Business Development Centers of the ASBDC, as well as the results of its implementation thus far in El Salvador, will be presented as a reference for other nations in the region.
This regional workshop is organized by the OAS, through its Department of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, in collaboration with ASBDC and the Center for the Promotion of Small Businesses in Central America (CENTROMYPE). The event is financed by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
