OAS and UNODC to Analyze 2011 Report on Homicides in the Americas

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will welcome this Tuesday, October 18, 2011, a table of experts on security that will debate the Global Report on Homicides 2011 containing the latest regional data on the subject.

The event will also feature the participation of Adam Blackwell, OAS Secretary for Multidimensional Security; Antonio Mazzitelli, Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); Coronel Juan Carlos Buitrago, of the National Police of Colombia; Rogerio Galloro, of the Federal Police of Brazil; and Enrico Bisogno, a specialist at the UNODC.

The presentation will be held at 11:00 EDT (15:00 GMT) in the Sir Arthur Lewis Room inside the OAS General Services Building in Washington, DC. In addition, the hemispheric organization, through its Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, will announce the agenda of the next Meeting of Ministers of Public Security of the Americas, to be held in Puerto España on November 17 and 18, 2011.

The UNODC and the OAS will continue working together in a coordinated way to collect and analyze the data on crime and violence in the Member States of the OAS. For more information on the Global Report on Homicides 2011, visit here.
