OAS hosts roundtable on Hemispheric Cooperation to Combat Natural Disasters in Preparation of the Summit of the Americas

The Organization of American States (OAS), through the Department of International Affairs and the Summit of the Americas Secretariat will host on Thursday, October 6 at 15:00 EDT (19:00 GMT) the XXXII OAS Policy Roundtable: “The Road to Cartagena: Hemispheric Cooperation to Combat Natural Disasters” in the Hall of the Americas at the Organizations headquarters in Washington, DC.

The panelists at the event, moderated by Cletus Springer, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development of the OAS, will be the Vice President and Coordinator of the White Helmet Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Carlos Alberto Villalba; the PAHO/WHO Area Manager in Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief for Latin America and the Caribbean, Jean-Luc Poncelet; and the President and founder of the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development and Director of the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE), Durwood Zaelke.

Opening remarks will be presented by the Permanent Representative of Colombia, Ambassador Luis Alfonso Hoyos. The event closing will be delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Summits of the Americas Secretariat, Sherry Tross.
