OAS Secretary General Opens Dialogue on the Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will present on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 10:00 EDT (14:00 GMT) the “Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas,” in a special meeting of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), at the headquarters of the organization in Washington, DC.

The Report (Analytical Report - Scenarios Report), which was presented today by Secretary General Insulza to the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, in Bogotá, was produced by the hemispheric organization during the last year following the mandate from the Summit of the Americas held in April 2012 in Cartagena, Colombia.

Following the presentation of the Report, the 53rd Regular Session of CICAD will begin. The Session will be held from Monday until Wednesday, May 22, and will discuss the findings and implications of the Report for the hemisphere. The agenda of the event is available here.

Media will be admitted beginning at 09:00 EDT (13:00 GMT) through the right door of the main entrance. Please, in order to avoid overcrowding, arrive ahead of time.

Coverage of the Meeting

The available space for journalists in the Hall of the Americas is strictly limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The San Martin Room of the same building will be equipped with all the necessary services for journalists to follow the meeting and do their work.

Photo and Video Access

Photographers and cameramen who wish may take images of the authorities at the beginning of the meeting, following the instructions of the officials from the Press and Communications Department.

During the meeting, the circulation of photographers and cameramen will be limited to areas designated by the OAS Press and Communications Department.
