Forum on Political and Electoral Reforms in the Dominican Republic

  May 16, 2013

The Organization of American States (OAS), the Central Electoral Board (JCE) of the Dominican Republic and IDEA International are holding today and tomorrow a “Dialogue on Draft Legislation on Political Parties and Electoral Reform” in Santo Domingo.

The event aims to contribute to the discussion among Dominican legislators ahead of the debate on proposals concerning the two subjects in the National Congress. The forum will feature the presence of international participants who will share similar experiences within the Latin American context.

This event takes place within the framework of technical cooperation by the OAS requested by the JCE, through which it has accompanied the process of aligning the electoral law to the Constitution adopted in 2010. The proposals include issues related to the recommendations of the OAS Electoral Observation Missions deployed in the country in past elections.
