OAS to Organize Workshop for Small Hotel Owners and Operators in Dominica
April 1, 2013
The Organization of American States (OAS), with the financial support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), is organizing a National Tourism Training Workshop for owners and operators of small hotels in Dominica, on April 2-3, 2013, focused on improving service quality. The Workshop is the first in a series of such events in the countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The theme of the workshop is “Achieving Service and Business Excellence for Small Hotels,” and it will focus on training standards, branding and marketing. The sessions will offer a detailed look at the role and importance of training for small hotels as well as specific marketing strategies. The workshops will provide opportunities for owners and operators to access new information on service quality, the culture of hospitality, marketing, and how these elements support improving overall competitiveness.
This initiative is part of the OAS’ Sustainable Tourism Program for 2013 under the auspices of the Small Tourism Enterprise Network (STEN) Project that focuses on improving the competitiveness of small and medium sized tourism enterprises.
Some thirty local participants are expected to take part in the Dominica workshop, which is organized together with the Discover Dominica Authority. In addition to small hotel owners and operators, the event will include public sector officials involved with the development and support of small hotels. The workshops will be facilitated by regional tourism expert Shirlene Nibbs of Nibbs & Associates in Antigua and Barbuda.
