OAS to host Food Festival of the Americas

  May 18, 2012

The Organization of Women of the Americas (OWA) will hold on Sunday, May 20, at 11:00 EDT (15:00 GMT) in the OAS Gardens the 14th Annual Food Festival of the Americas, an event that invites the public to enjoy the different foods, music, and typical dances of the countries of the continent. The entrance to this event is FREE.

During the event, there will be a drawing for prizes including electronics, restaurant gift certificates, art and more.

The meeting, organized every year by the ladies of the OWA, supports charities for women and children in the Americas. To this end, the wives of the OAS Permanent Representatives once a year coordinate various fundraising activities.

To participate in the drawing for prizes, those interested will be able to buy tickets the day of the event or in advance, at a cost of 10 dollars, by sending an email to the following address: [email protected].

The OWA is a nonprofit organization, funded by and made up of the spouses of the Ambassadors and Permanent Observers to the OAS and other members. Currently Elvira Mendez, wife of the Permanent Representative of Belize to the OAS, presides over the organization.

Since its founding, the OWA has contributed to the Oncology Unit of the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C; the Caribbean American Intercultural Organization; the Assistance Fund for Victims of Anti-personnel Mines in Central America, the "Casa Rosada" home for children with AIDS in the Dominican Republic; Programs of the Mother Teresa of Calcutta's Missionaries of Charity, in Washington, D.C; and the San José de Malambo Orphanage in Panama, among others.
