ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON DEMOCRACY PROMOTION AND INTER-REGIONAL COOPERATION

The Twentieth Policy roundtable of the Organization of American States (OAS), entitled “Promoting Democracy and Inter-regional Cooperation” will take place this Thursday, November 19 in the Hall of the Americas, at the headquarters of the hemispheric organization in Washington, D.C.

At the meeting, Ingrid Wetterqvist, Head of Planning and External Relations at the Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), will present the report: “Democracy in Development: Global Questions on the Role of the European Union in Building Democracy.”

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the Minister Counselor and Charge D’ Affairs a.i., European Union, Delegation of the European Commission, Ambassador Angelos Pangratis; the Permanent Representative of Canada to the OAS, Ambassador Graeme Clark; the Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the OAS, Ambassador Jorge Skinner-Klee and the Director of the OAS Department of State Modernization & Governance, Mr. Robert Devlin.

The event will conclude with a question and answer session and final comments by the Ambassador for Democracy, Division for Development Policy, Ministry for Foreign Affairs Sweden, Maria Leissner.
