CIM TO ADDRESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN FINANCIAL CRISIS

The Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold the second regular session of its Executive Committee this Monday and Tuesday, October 5 and 6, 2009. Among other subjects will be addressed the opportunities for women in the current financial crisis, and the possibilities of collaboration with other organizations, as well as developments in the subject of eliminating violence against women.

The meeting will be inaugurated by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza; the President of the Permanent Council of the OAS and Permanent Representative of Colombia before the OAS, Amb. Luis Alfonso Hoyos Aristizabal; and the President of the CIM and Chilean Minister of Women’s Affairs, Laura Albornoz Pollmann.

The CIM is a Specialized Organization of the OAS and the principal forum for generating hemispheric policy to advance women's rights and gender equality.
